Mr. Amer's journey as an artist is both inspiring and heart-wrenching. Beginning his daily art training at just 8 years old in Afghanistan, his family was only able to afford the $2.00 fee per month for his art teacher for two months, but his mentor saw such talent in Sirus, that he continued teaching him free of charge for many years.
Sirus honed his craft starting with still life and eventually graduating to portraits, using every medium available in Afghanistan—pencil, pen, charcoal, and oil paints.
His remarkable talent for capturing the essence of loved ones in his portraits earned him the admiration of US military members, who regularly hired him at the young age of 13 and 14, to do portraits of their family members, because they found solace in his work during their deployments.
As he matured as an artist, Mr. Amer turned his lens toward a different mission, photographing Afghan child laborers to support non-profits working to end this heartbreaking issue. This is also the time he first began murals, doing murals for Afghanistan schools and hospitals. His dedication to making a difference led him to become a media advisor for the Afghan government, where he excelled as a director and producer in various television stations.
Tragically, when the Taliban regained control in 2021, Mr. Amer faced unimaginable danger, including being shot twice while carrying out his duties as a news photographer. Forced to leave his homeland, he carries with him not only the scars of his experiences but opposingly, a deep love and longing for his culture and community.
Through Amer Mural Art, Sirus channels his passion for painting, transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary reflections of identity and message. With years of experience, Mr. Amer's detail-oriented approach ensures that each mural is crafted with precision, care, and a touch of imagination. Hiring him means not only enriching your space with beautiful art and timeless aesthetics, but also supports a resilient artist who is committed to making a positive impact in the world.
